It's easy to call all old games 'classics', but few truly deserve the title. Among those that do however is Elite. Starting life on the BBC Micro, and slowly transferring to other platforms (I played the Commodore 64 version, which was great), Elite revolutionised gaming. There was no need for flashy graphics or pumping tunes, just intuitive gameplay and an ever expanding universe to explore.
The game is 25 years old today and the creator had a chat with the BBC about this historical game, you can view it here

Or, just take a quick trip down memory lane now...
Truly one of the greatest games of all time. Immense considering when it was released and the hardware it ran on.
The BBC version was fab - the best of the 8-bit versions we reckon.
Nothing has ever captured the atmosphere of Elite.
